چکیده

The Loess Plateau is one of the most seriously eroded areas in the world. This study determined the effects on runoff, soil loss, and phosphorus loss of six land use systems in hillslope of the Loess Plateau: farmland, wasteland and four forest treatments (Seabuckthorn + poplar, immature seabuckthorn, mature seabuckthorn, and immature Chinese pine). Differences were significant (P<0.05) for runoff and erosion among treatments. Runoff, soil loss, and P loss occurred mainly during critical period (July). Three of the four forest treatments (Seabuckthorn + poplar, immature seabuckthorn, and mature seabuckthorn) were reasonable land uses in limiting runoff, soil loss, and have the positive impact on the environment. The results indicated that farmlands over 15° produce more runoff, soil loss, and total P loss, and they should be reforested.

Effects of Land Use on Soil Erosion and Nitrogen Loss in the Hilly Area of the Loess Plateau, China

This study examines the effects of land use and slope angle on runoff, soil loss and nitrogen loss from hillslopes of the Loess Plateau in China. Farmland, wasteland and four forest treatments (sea buckthornþ poplar, immature sea buckthorn, mature sea buckthorn, and immature Chinese pine) were the types of land use that were compared. The results showed that July was the critical period for run...

Estimation of Sediment Yield Change in a Loess Plateau Basin, China

Soil erosion is one of the most serious land degradation problems and the primary environmental issue in the Loess Plateau region of China. To identify the critical sub-basins and assess the impacts of land use change and climatic variability change on soil loss, this study tested the feasibility of the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) model on sediment load simulation in the upper Sang-ka...

Identification of Soil Quality Factors and Indicators for the Loess Plateau of China

Soil quality has been significantly degraded in the Loess Plateau of China by soil erosion. Our objectives were to (i) identify regional-scale soil quality factors (groupings), (ii) select soil attributes within these factors that can be used as indicators of soil quality, and (iii) determine the impact of land use on these soil quality factors and indicators for the Loess Plateau in China. Soi...
